WHAT’S THE BEST FRAMESET FOR ME?

The frameset of a bike is a crucial component that determines the overall fit, comfort, and performance of the bike. Choosing the perfect frame size and geometry is important to ensure a comfortable and efficient riding position. Different framesets can be designed to cater to specific riding styles or preferences, such as a more aggressive racing position or a more relaxed and comfortable touring position. The selection of materials and tube profiles can also affect the bike's weight, stiffness, and ride quality. Ultimately, it is important to choose a frameset that suits your body and riding needs to ensure an enjoyable and efficient cycling experience.

I LOVE TO CLIMB. WHAT’S THE BEST CYCLE FOR ME?

Every Jaegher bike is designed to excel at climbing while also being stable and safe during descents. Climbing performance is influenced by factors such as bike weight and frame stiffness, and Jaegher claims to have built bikes as light as 6.6kg while also ensuring that the frame is designed for aggressive acceleration.

“It’s terrifying. Some road bikes feel like a dishcloth in a descent.”

Johan Museeuw.

The behavior of the bike during a descent is just as important as climbing performance. Jaegher bikes are designed to provide a unique and liberating sense of safety during descents. The use of steel in the frame construction is mentioned as contributing to this sense of safety.

As we say in Belgium:  "They’ll eat up the curves."

WHAT IS THE STIFFEST BIKE YOU HAVE?

Our stainless steel framesets, crafted from high-quality Columbus XCr tubes, offer an excellent combination of stiffness, lightness, and comfort. Through collaboration with the engineers at Columbus, we have developed a unique tube set that delivers exceptional performance. While stiffness is an important consideration for many riders, we understand that comfort is also crucial for an enjoyable riding experience. Our framesets strike a balance between these qualities, providing a lively and responsive ride without sacrificing comfort. The Ascender and Hurricane frames are among our most popular models, utilizing Columbus XCr tubes to deliver an excellent stiffness-to-weight ratio. While a shorter wheelbase can contribute to a stiffer frame, we also consider factors such as tube diameter, wall thickness, and frame geometry to ensure optimal performance.

WHAT’S THE LIGHTEST FRAME YOU HAVE?

The Ascender is our lightest model available. In fact, the lightest Jaegher bike ever to leave our workshop weighed a mere 6.6 kilograms in a size 56. While this weight may seem incredibly impressive, it is worth noting that it falls below the minimum weight limit of 6.8 kilograms required for bikes participating in the Tour de France.

WHAT’S THE WEIGHT OF A FRAMESET?

The weight of a bike frame can vary based on several factors, including the model, size, brake type, and paint. To streamline our product range, we utilize ultra-thin ceramic polymer coatings. These coatings are both lightweight and durable, making them an ideal choice for the Ascender Pure model.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO ADD RANDONNEUR OPTIONS TO MY JAEGHER?

Every Jaegher frame is built to withstand the demands of randonneuring, and we can even add custom features like mudguards, lights, and panniers to suit your needs. As evidence of our frames' durability, Kristof Allegaert, one of the world's most accomplished long-distance cyclists, uses his Jaegher bikes for tours spanning hundreds or even thousands of kilometers. He has won numerous ultra-distance races, including the Transcontinental and Trans-Siberian, riding his trusty Jaegher Interceptor and Ascender.

DO YOU ALSO MAKE PISTIERS OR TRACK BIKES?

We can turn just about every model we have into a track bike. The most important thing is to adapt the geometry. The bracket sits higher to keep the pedals from touching the track in the most extreme curves (the famous “Kuipke” in Ghent it’s 52%).

DO YOU ALSO MAKE GRAVEL BIKES?

Of course we do. Long before gravel bikes were a big thing, we already did. In Flanders we have the cyclocross culture. But a gravel bike is not the same as a cx bike. Our gravel bikes are the result of testing, trying and prototyping. Nowadays, the Hurricane and the Tornado are the best off gravel options, with a huge tire clearance of up to 700c x 47 or 650b x 2.2".

IS IT POSSIBLE TO ORDER A MADE TO MEASURE STEEL MOUNTAIN BIKE FROM JAEGHER?

We've been honing our craft in building road and gravel bikes, but we also love a good challenge. That's why we've created gravel bikes that are not just durable, but also faster and more stylish than mountain bikes. We even offer the option of installing Lauf suspension forks to further enhance your riding experience. If our gravel bikes don't quite convince you, we're always open to having a conversation and exploring how we can meet your needs.

WHAT IS THE BEST JAEGHER FOR LONG DISTANCE STAGES?

Kristof Allegaert's success is not solely attributed to his Jaegher bikes, but they have certainly played a role in his accomplishments. He is a true Jaegher fan and has won several ultra-distance races on his Jaegher bikes, all of which were painted in his signature red colour. Allegaert's victories include three Trans-Continental Races covering 4,000 km each, the Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme spanning 9,150 km, and the tragic Indian Pacific covering 5,500 km. While Allegaert's skills as a long-distance cyclist cannot be understated, his partnership with Jaegher has certainly been a winning combination.

HOW CAN I ORDER MY JAEGHER?

We recommend filling out the questionnaire on our website to schedule a meeting in our workshop in Ghent or sending us an email at ateliers@jaegher.com. If you are unable to travel, we can arrange an online meeting. During the meeting, we'll guide you through the selection process of choosing your frame, artwork, and components to create a world-class bike.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO GET MY MEASUREMENTS?

The most effective way to determine the ideal size and geometry of your Jaegher is to visit a professional bike fitting center. These centers have state-of-the-art equipment, such as video, laser techniques, and special software, to consider not only your height and leg size but also your upper body, arms, shoulder width, past injuries, muscle length, asymmetry, flexibility, weight, and personal goals. All of these factors are crucial in building a custom-fit bike. Once you have your measurements, you can send us the PDF of the fitting center. If you have any questions about bike position or geometry, please don't hesitate to contact us. You can send us an email at ateliers@jaegher.com and we'll be happy to assist you.

CAN I TAKE MY OWN MEASUREMENTS?

We don’t recommend you to take your own measurements. Bikefitting is a specialty in itself. When thinking of a custom-made bike, the extra effort to visit us or another bikefit specialist is part of the process.

CAN I CHOOSE OTHER COLOURS?

We think that we have a pretty awesome range of colours, and we prefer to see Jaeghers on the road that we’re proud of. Of course we could let you choose a colour that goes with your 1992 jersey, but we will only go for it if we think it’s a good choice. If we both agree on a different colour, please note that there can be a supplement caused by the paint price or time-consuming techniques.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE MADE TO MEASURE INSTEAD OF STANDARD MEASUREMENTS?

If bodies would be standard, a lot of things in life would be more easy but also more boring. That is why we are less of a fan of bicycles with standard measurements. No two bodies are the same, so why should bikes be the same? Comfort and performance are always better when your bike fits your body. On top of that, while designing your bike, we take your expectations on handling, comfort, and so on into account.

CAN I REPAINT MY ROAD BIKE?

Repainting your bike is an option that many cyclists choose for various reasons. Whether your taste has evolved, you want to refresh the look of your bike, or the existing paint is damaged, a new coat of paint can make your bike feel like new again. Fortunately, it is perfectly feasible to strip the old paint and apply a new color to your frame without any adverse effects on its performance. Your Jaegher will still ride just as well as before.

CAN I BUY A JAEGHER WITHOUT A JAEGHER LOGO?

Oh no! You made me spill my coffee all over the place.

CAN I BUY JUST A FRAME AND A FORK?

We are frame builders, so yes, of course you can buy a frame with a matching fork. We finish the artwork and prepare the frame for assembly, so you’ll have a perfect start to build your own Jaegher.

CAN I BUY AN UNPAINTED FRAME?

If it is an Ascender or a Hurricane with a pearl-blasted logo, it is perfectly possible.

CAN I BUY A JAEGHER IN MY LOCAL BIKESHOP?

We like to finish our bikes 100%, but in case you can’t make it to Belgium, or you are very close with your bike shop: Yes, you can. Just inform your bike shop and us about your ideas. We’ll be delighted to deliver your local bike shop the frameset so they can assemble the bike of your dreams.

WHAT ABOUT CRANK LENGTH? STEM LENGTH? HANDLEBAR WIDTH?

Getting this right is crucial for your riding experience. The decisions regarding your position and bike's handling will be based on the bike fitting study as well as the technical drawing. We'll work with you to achieve your desired fit and handling. Feel free to contact us or a professional bike fitting center.

WHAT TYPE OF TUBESETS DO YOU USE TO CRAFT YOUR BESPOKE FRAMES?

At Jaegher, we are committed to excellence. That's why we use the world-class standard in bicycle frame materials - Columbus steel from Italy. With a rich history of excellence dating back to the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, Columbus continues to push the boundaries of what's possible with their lightweight and ultra-stiff tubes. For our Ascender and Hurricane frames, we primarily use the exclusive Columbus XCr tubeset which offer exceptional performance and durability. Additionally, for our Interceptor and Tornado we work with the Columbus Spirit Tubeset.

IS IT TRUE THAT COLUMBUS MANUFACTURES A TUBE SET JUST FOR JAEGHER?

At Jaegher, we are dedicated to creating exceptional road and gravel bikes. To achieve the finest results, our team of specialists, including our master welder and Columbus engineers, collaborated in Milan to produce an exclusive tube set that is both incredibly stiff and surprisingly comfortable. The result is nothing short of exquisite. Have a nice flight.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GRAVEL AND A CYCLOCROSS BIKE?

A cyclocross has a higher bottom bracket to handle the terrain and the geometry is more agile. A gravel bike has the same bracket as a road bike, and the frame geometry is gravel oriented.

CAN I HAVE A RIMBRAKE JAEGHER?

Rimbrake is still an option on request.

WHAT ABOUT TIRE WIDTH? CAN I HAVE 28MM? 32MM? OR EVEN MORE?

You can go with widths up to 28mm or 32mm. Depending on your wishes. For allroad usage we go up to 40mm, where for pure gravel we go up to 700c x 47mm or 650b x 2,2

DO YOU MAKE ALSO ROAD BIKES OUT OF OTHER MATERIALS? CARBON, ALUMINIUM OR TITANIUM? WOOD?

We are true believers in steel - it's been at the heart of our craft for generations. That's not to say we think carbon and aluminum are bad materials - in fact, there are some truly fantastic road bikes made from these materials. However, we believe that the ultimate ride experience comes from using steel or stainless steel. These materials offer an unbeatable combination of stiffness and comfort that simply can't be matched by other materials.

Moreover, steel is a highly sustainable choice, as it is fully recyclable and has a low carbon footprint. That's why we remain committed to crafting steel frames that not only deliver an exceptional ride but also help protect our planet.

DO ALL JAEGHER FRAMES HAVE A REPLACEABLE DERAILLEUR HANGER?

All Jaegher race cycles have a replacable derailleur hanger.

IS THE BOTTOM BRACKET BRITSH OR ITALIAN THREATED OR PRESSFIT?

At Jaegher, we have been using T47 bottom brackets since the day they were invented. In our opinion, they are simply the best option for creating a durable, stiff, and comfortable frame. It is still threaded, but uses the only good thing of the pressfit standards: its wider diameter.

WHAT’S THE TIME BETWEEN ORDERING AND DELIVERY?

The time between your order and our delivery is between 8 and 12 weeks. It gets very busy at the atelier sometimes, so don’t sue us if it’s a couple of days later. It’s only because we take our time to make your bike perfect.

WHAT IF THE DELIVERY IS NOT ON TIME?

At Jaegher, we're committed to delivering state-of-the-art work with every frame we produce. As a small company, we do our best to keep a decent inventory of the wonderful Italian Columbus tubes we use, but there are times when we may have to wait for parts to be delivered, which can slow down our production process. That being said, we understand that timely delivery is important to our customers and we do everything in our power to ensure that we meet our deadlines. If there are ever any delays, we'll be upfront and transparent with you and work to resolve any issues as quickly as possible.

DO I HAVE TO PAY EXTRA FOR DELIVERY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD?

We prepare your bike and box it for shipping. Shipping costs are invoiced.

IS THERE A SPECIAL PRICE IF WE ORDER TWO OR THREE JAEGHER'S AT ONCE?

That’s a great idea! Just ask ateliers@jaegher.com

HOW LONG IS THE GUARANTEE ON THE FRAME?

At Jaegher, we stand behind our craftsmanship and offer a 4-year guarantee on our frames and welding. However, with proper care and maintenance, a Jaegher steel frame can last a lifetime. Just like a car, your bike frame needs regular upkeep to ensure it stays in top condition. We recommend scheduling a thorough maintenance check at least once a year to help prolong the life of your frame - check out our 'Maintenance for a Long Life' section for more information.

IS THERE ALSO A WARRANTY ON THE PAINTJOB?

It really depends on how you treat your Jaegher.

WHAT IF THE COLOUR IS NOT EXACTLY WHAT I HAD IN MIND?

At Jaegher, we do everything we can to accurately represent our bike colors on our website, Facebook, and Instagram pages. However, please keep in mind that what you see on your laptop or mobile screen may differ slightly from the actual colors. We can assure you that the colors we recommend have been tried and tested to ensure they look great and stand out from the crowd.

In fact, we recommend these colors not only because they look unique, but also because they have been crafted using proprietary techniques that set them apart from other finishes. For more information on our colors and finishes, be sure to check out our Bespoke Design & Colours page.

CAN I COME TO THE ATELIER TO CHOOSE AND ORDER MY BIKE AND CAN IT BE SHIPPED AFTERWARDS TO MY COUNTRY?

Just sent a mail at ateliers@jaegher.com and we’ll schedule a meeting in our atelier in Ghent. We’ll let you know when your Jaegher is nearly finished, and when it will be shipped.

HOW WILL MY JAEGHER BE SHIPPED?

We’ve designed custom boxes in recyclable cardboard. Inside the box, the frame and fork are protected with foam. We tested the boxes with one of our own bikes: we tossed it around the room, dropped it from three meters’ height and let two Sumo wrestlers have a fight on it. Well, not the Sumo wrestlers, but you can be sure your Jaegher will be safely packed for shipment.
