Sometimes the questions are complicated
and the answers are simple.
WHAT’S THE BEST FRAMESET FOR ME?
The choice of your frameset depends on what you, and your body, prefer. Every frame is uniquely designed to fit your body measurements and desired riding characteristics. We can design your frame to be more aggressive or more comfortable. Of course the tubeset and profiles of the tubes make every bike to have its specific look and feel.
I LOVE TO CLIMB. WHAT’S THE BEST CYCLE FOR ME?
Every Jaegher is made to climb. And even more, it will take you down safe and steady. When climbing, the weight of the complete bike is a thing to look at. We’ve built bikes with a total weight of just 6,6kg. But a bike can never be judged only by the weight. For those who love to climb, the frame will be designed to be more aggressive when accelerating.
“It’s terrifying. Some road bikes feel like a dishcloth in a descent.”
Climbing is one thing, but equally – or even more important – is the behaviour of the bike during a descent. Riding a steel bike gives you a unique and liberating sense of safety. Plus, as we say in Belgium, they’ll eat up the curves.
WHAT IS THE STIFFEST ROAD BIKE YOU HAVE?
The tubesets of Ascender Pure and Interceptor Flymaster in a frame design with a short wheelbase will definitely create the stiffest Jaegher. This is the result of a collaboration with the engineers of Columbus to create a unique Columbus tube set. The result is a perfect marriage of stiffness, lightness and comfort.
WHAT’S THE LIGHTEST FRAME YOU HAVE?
Our lightest road bikes are Ascender Pure and Spitfire Epic. The lightest finished Jaegher left our workshop at precisely 6.6 kilos, and it was a size 56. And you know that’s too light to be admitted in the Tour de France!
WHAT’S THE WEIGHT OF A FRAMESET?
The weight of a frame depends on a number of things: the model, the size, brake type and the use of paint. To purify our range, we apply the ultra thin ceramic polymer coatings. These coatings are light and strong. The perfect choice on a Ascender Pure.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO ADD RANDONNEUR OPTIONS TO MY JAEGHER?
All Jaegher frames are robust enough to be used for randonneuring without any problem. We can weld on the necessary bits to the frame and pieces for mudguards, lights, and paniers before we paint it. The Belgian Kristof Allegaert, the world’s best long distance cyclist, is a total Jaegher fan. He didn’t turn his Jaegher into a randonneur, but he does carry bags on tours ranging from 500 to 10,000 km. He won the ultra-distance Transcontinental Race and the tragic Indian Pacific on an Interceptor Flymaster and the Trans-Siberian on an Ascender.
DO YOU ALSO MAKE PISTIERS OR TRACK BIKES?
We can turn just about every model we have into a track bike. The most important thing is to adapt the geometry. The bracket sits higher to keep the pedals from touching the track in the most extreme curves (the famous “Kuipke” in Ghent it’s 52%).
DO YOU ALSO MAKE GRAVEL BIKES?
Of course we do. Long before gravel bikes were a big thing, we already did. In Flanders we have the cyclocross culture. But a gravel bike is not the same as a cx bike. Our gravel bikes are the result of testing, trying and prototyping. Nowadays, Hurricane Unlimited is the best off road option, with a huge tire clearance of up to 700c x 47 or 650b x 2.2". For those looking for lighter adventures, Interceptor Flymaster and Spitfire Epic can be built in an X version. In that way we rise the tire clearance up to 40mm while maintaining the desired road bike characteristics.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO ORDER A MADE TO MEASURE STEEL MOUNTAIN BIKE FROM JAEGHER?
As gravel bikes made their entry, we only focus on road and gravel bikes. Of course we build gravel bikes that are faster, better looking and just as durable as a mountain bike. Even gravel bikes with a Lauf suspension forks are possible.
WHAT IS THE BEST JAEGHER FOR LONG DISTANCE STAGES?
Kristof Allegaert would say that it’s a Jaegher, even if we think his success also has something to do with, well, Kristof Allegaert. With his Jaegher bikes he has won three Trans-Continental Races (4,000 km), the Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme (9,150 km) and the tragic Indian Pacific (5,500 km). The other constant in these victories is that … all his bikes were red.
HOW CAN I ORDER MY JAEGHER?
Fill in the form on the ‘Your Welding Plan’ section of the website. Or just send us an e-mail on firstname.lastname@example.org or make an appointment for a meeting in our workshop in Ghent. If travelling is not easy, we can schedule a meeting online. . We have the tools to take your measurements in house. We’ll help you choose your frame, the artwork and all of the components you’ll need to make a world class bike. If you decide to order your Jaegher on this website, we recommend going to a professional bike fitting centre for the measurements we’ll need to build your frame.
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO GET MY MEASUREMENTS?
The best way is to go to a professional bike fitting centre. They have the best equipment. They use video, laser techniques and special software. They don’t just look at your height and the size of your legs, but also your arms, your upper body and shoulder width. They also consider past injuries, muscle length, asymmetry, your flexibility, weight and your personal goals. All of these things will have an influence on the size and geometry of your own Jaegher. You can then upload the pdf of the fitting centre on the ‘Your Welding Plan’ section of this website.. If you’re in the neighbourhood, you can also make an appointment with Emanuel on email@example.com to have your measurements taken in our workshop in Ghent.. We have measurements tools, the experience and it’s included in the frameprice.
CAN I TAKE MY OWN MEASUREMENTS?
We don’t recommend you to. Bikefitting is a specialty in itself. When thinking of a measuremade bike, the extra effort to visit us or another bikefit specialist is part of the process.
CAN I CHOOSE ANOTHER COLOURS?
We think that we have a pretty awesome range of colours, and we prefer to see Jaeghers on the road that we’re proud of. Of course we could let you choose a colour that goes with your 1992 jersey, but we will only go for it if we think it’s a good choice.. If we both agree on a different colour, please note that there can be a supplement caused by the paint price or time consuming techniques.
WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE MADE TO MEASURE INSTEAD OF STANDARD MEASUREMENTS?
If bodies would be standard, a lot of things in life would be more easy but also more boring. That is why we don’t believe in bicycles with standard measurements. No two bodies are the same, so why should bikes be the same? Comfort and performance are always better when your bike fits your body. On top of that, while designing your bike, we take your expectations on handling, comfort and so on into account.
CAN I REPAINT MY ROAD BIKE?
It happens. Tastes evolve, minds change, paint can get damaged, or sometimes you just want to feel like you’re getting a new bike without losing the old one. It’s perfectly possible to strip your bike and have it repainted in new colours. It won’t have any negative effect on the performance of your frame whatsoever.
CAN I BUY A JAEGHER WITHOUT A JAEGHER LOGO?
You should know the answer to that one. No.
CAN I BUY JUST A FRAME AND A FORK?
We are frame builders, so yes, of course you can buy a frame with a matching fork. We finish the artwork and prepare the frame for assembly, so you’ll have a perfect start to build your own Jaegher.
CAN I BUY AN UNPAINTED FRAME?
Sorry, we don’t offer that.
CAN I BUY A JAEGHER IN MY LOCAL BIKESHOP?
We like to finish our bikes a 100%. But in case you can’t make it to Belgium, or you are very close with your bikeshop: Yes you can. Just inform your bikeshop and us about your ideas We’ll be delighted to deliver your local bikeshop the frameset so they can assemble the bike of your dreams.
WHAT ABOUT CRANK LENGTH? STEM LENGTH? HANDLEBAR WIDTH?
This is an important question. Your riding experience will depend partly on getting this right. These choices will be result of the bikefitting study, but also of the technical drawing of the bike. We will obtain your position and the desired handling in your bike. Just contact us or a professional bike fitting centre.
WHERE ARE THE TUBE SETS FROM?
At Jaegher we always go for the best.We use Columbus steel from Italy. It’s the world class standard. They were the best in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Nowadays their tubes are lighter and stiffer than ever. We use mainly the Columbus Spirit and Columbus XCR ranges for our tubesets. For the Interceptor Flymaster and Ascender Pure, some tubes are exclusively shaped for Jaegher.
IS IT TRUE THAT COLUMBUS MANUFACTURES A TUBE SET JUST FOR JAEGHER?
We build exquisite road and gravel bikes. . To have the finest results, our specialists, Jaegher’s master welder and the Columbus engineers worked together in Milan to produce an exclusive and extreme stiff (and still comfortable) tube set. And that’s exactly what it is. Have a nice flight.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GRAVEL AND A CYCLOCROSS BIKE?
A cyclocross has a higher bottom bracket to handle the terrain and the geometry is more agile. A gravel bike has the same bracket as a road bike, and the frame geometry is gravel oriented.
CAN I HAVE A RIMBRAKE JAEGHER?
All Jaegher bikes are designed for discbrakes. Rimbrake is still an option on request.
WHAT ABOUT TIRE WIDTH? CAN I HAVE 28MM? 32MM? OR EVEN MORE?
You can go with widths up to 28mm or 32mm. Depending on your wishes. For allroad usage we go up to 40mm, where for pure gravel we go up to 700c x 47mm or 650b x 2,2
DO YOU MAKE ALSO ROAD BIKES OUT OF OTHER MATERIALS? CARBON, ALUMINIUM OR TITANIUM? WOOD?
We are true believers in steel, and we have been for many generations. Do we think carbon and aluminium are bad? No, of course not. There are some fabulous road bikes made of those materials, but we truly believe that the best ride is created by using steel or stainless steel. These materials give the best result if you want a stiff, yet comfortable ride. On top of that manufacturing a steel bike is far more environmentally friendly than the non recyclable carbon. So, we’ll just keep on making steel frames. But thanks for asking.
DO ALL JAEGHER FRAMES HAVE A REPLACEABLE DERAILLEUR HANGER?
All Jaegher race cycles have a replaceable derailleur hanger.
IS THE BOTTOM BRACKET BRITSH OR ITALIAN THREATED OR PRESSFIT?
At Jaegher we use T47 from the day it was invented. This is the best option to create a durable, stiff, yet comfortable frame. It is still threaded, but uses the only good thing of the pressfit standards: its wider diameter.
WHAT’S THE TIME BETWEEN ORDERING AND DELIVERY?
The time between your order and our delivery is between 8 and 12 weeks. It gets very busy at the atelier sometimes, so don’t sue us if it’s a couple of days later. It’s only because we take our time to make your bike perfect.
WHAT IF THE DELIVERY IS NOT ON TIME?
Then we’ll tell you we’re working on it. And that wouldn’t be an excuse. We’re a small company and we want to deliver state-of the-art work. Of course, we have a decent inventory of those wonderful Italian Columbus tubes, but it does occasionally happen that we have to wait on parts to be delivered, slowingdown the production process. We also work with the best painters. Unfortunately they only have two hands. Believe us, we do everything to be on time.
DO I HAVE TO PAY EXTRA FOR DELIVERY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD?
We prepare your bike and box it for shipping. Shipping costs are invoiced.
IS THERE A SPECIAL PRICE IF WE ORDER TWO OR THREE ROAD BIKES AT ONCE?
That’s a great idea! Just ask firstname.lastname@example.org
HOW LONG IS THE GUARANTEE ON THE FRAME?
At Jaegher we give a two-year guarantee on the frame and welding. But a Jaegher steel frame can last forever – if you treat it well. Just like a car, your frame needs thorough maintenance at least once a year (see the section Maintenance for a Long Life). We would love to give you a life-time guarantee but we can only give you a promise. If you treat your road bike the way you should, then you will enjoy your Jaegher the rest of your life.
IS THERE ALSO A WARRANTY ON THE PAINTJOB?
It really depends on what you did with your poor little Jaegher.
WHAT IF THE COLOR IS NOT EXACTLY WHAT I HAD IN MIND?
On our website, Facebook and Instagram pages we do everything we can to make the colours as true as possible. But what you see on the screen of your laptop or mobile is what you see on a screen. We can assure you though that the colours we recommend have been tried and tested. We’re recommending them not only because we think they look great, but also because they don’t look like anybody else’s colours. Check our ‘Colours and Finish’ page to see more on the techniques.
CAN I COME TO THE ATELIER TO CHOOSE AND ORDER MY BIKE AND CAN IT BE SHIPPED AFTERWARDS TO MY COUNTRY?
Just sent a mail at email@example.com and we’ll schedule a meeting in our atelier in Ghent. We’ll let you know when your Jaegher is nearly finished, and when it will be shipped.
HOW WILL MY JAEGHER BE SHIPPED?
We’ve designed custom boxes in recyclable cardboard. Inside the box, the frame and fork are protected with foam. We tested the boxes with one of our own bikes: we tossed it around the room, dropped it from three meters’ height and let two Sumo wrestlers have a fight on it. Well, not the Sumo wrestlers, but you can be sure your Jaegher will be safely packed for shipment.
